Many high school graduates are flocking directly to college straight out of high school, causing the college degree to lower in value. The problem is, why are they students going to college. Many are there for the wrong reason. Many young adults treat college as a social playground where they are able to party and have fun with hardly any consequences. The last thing on a college student’s mind is studying and bettering themselves. Television has also made matters worst by making young students think that college is all about the parties.
This is not what a higher education is about. College is about improving yourself and expanding on what you know. This is a place to absorb knowledge and improve yourself. After all you are paying for it right? Financial aid makes college easily accessible.
Students are making career choices based on income
College students tend to choose a career based only on how much they can earn with it. This is simply the wrong way of doing things. This is basically painting yourself into a corner. Imagine doing something that you don’t like for 40-50 years simply for the sake of money. What good is all this money when you’re career goal is to end up working for corporation for 80 hours per week and only having a 2 weeks of free time each year? You really should be choosing a career field that is at least related to your interest.
It’s about absorbing information and using it wisely
But college isn’t all about studying and staying up late night trying to finish a project just so you could get an “A” in the course. Its all about making use of what you learn
Cramming in book’s worth of information the day before just isn’t going to achieve anything. Sometimes it works and you end up retaining some information about a very specific topic within a 24 hour time span. So what about after the exam? What happens is you won’t be able to connect the dots with the information that you’ve learned. You can’t apply it to anything other than for passing a test. When you don’t put what you’ve learned to good use, you’ll end up losing it all. Doing something that you’re not interested in just so you can get a good grade isn’t the way to go. If you’re doing this, then you’re doing nothing more than wasting your time.
High school students everywhere are getting crammed into colleges and universities with no real goals or plan other than to graduate and then get a job. Eventually in about a decade, nearly every young adult will have a bachelor’s degree, thus reducing the value that it actually holds. People are learning more about how student loans work , thus enabling them to attend practically any college or university that they’re accepted in. People need to stop going to college for the sake of going to college, but instead focus more on what they really want to accomplish.
